How do I create and assign certificates?
Certificates are a valuable way to recognise learner achievement and reinforce your training program's credibility. This guide explains how Super Administrators can design, customise, and assign certificates in Coursebox. From uploading branded templates to linking certificates to specific courses, you'll have full control over how completion is celebrated and displayed.
Certificates are great incentives for learners to complete the course and can also play an important role in branding your training programs.
ℹ️ Updated May 2026: Certificates are now managed under Achievements → Certificates in the left sidebar. The standalone certificate icon previously shown in the top menu and on the course overview page has been removed.
From the left-hand menu, click Achievements and select Certificates.
Create course certificates
Click on Achievements → Certificates from the side navigation to manage certificates. Click on the blank frame to create a new certificate.
Edit certificate theme
You can edit the following items to customise your certificates:
Background image: Upload a background image for your certificate design (for best results, use 210mm × 297mm to fit the certificate design).
Logo: Upload your company logo.
Certificate name: Enter the name of your certificate (e.g. Digital Marketing Course).
Signature: Include an image of a signature.
Authorised name of signature: Enter the name of the authorised signatory.
Additional text notes: Enter additional notes (optional).
Footer notes: Enter additional footer notes.
Styling: Change font style by clicking the font option. Change font colour by clicking the paintbrush icon. Once complete, click Save.
Note: The certificate edit button is now visible on touch and mobile devices.
Duplicate certificates
Click the duplicate icon on the existing certificate to duplicate it.
Assign certificates to a course
The certificate page search bar is now filterable by associated course name. You can type a course name into the search bar to quickly find certificates linked to a specific course.
You can remove the assigned course by clicking the X button.
⚠️ Important: Certificates can only be assigned at the course level — not at section, lesson, or quiz level.
Certificate of completion URL (sharing with learners)
Once a certificate is assigned to a course, it is automatically generated when a learner completes the course — there is no separate setting to switch on. Each completed certificate has its own URL (completion link) that learners can view, download, and share (for example, on LinkedIn).
