Can I require learners to watch specific parts of a video and set forced completion in a slideshow?
Yes, with a workaround. Force Completion makes learners watch a whole video before they can move on, but you can't set start and end times inside a video. To make learners watch only certain parts, trim the video into segments and add each segment with Force Completion on.
Make learners watch specific parts of a video
In a video editor such as Clipchamp, iMovie or VLC, cut out the parts learners must watch, for example 10:12 to 18:43. Save each part as an MP4 file.
In the course editor, click + Add block and choose Videos from the Multimedia column.
Click Video Upload, then Upload Video, and choose the first segment.
Open Advanced Options and tick Force Completion.
Repeat steps 2 to 4 for each segment, in the order learners should watch them.
Upload the segments to Coursebox rather than linking them from YouTube or Vimeo. Those videos play in the provider's own player, so learners can skip ahead even with Force Completion on.
Force completion for a slideshow
The Slides block doesn't have a completion setting. To make learners go through a slide deck, turn it into a narrated video:
Save your slides as a PDF.
Click + Add block, choose Videos and click From Presentation.
Click Import Slides (PDF only), add narration for each slide and click Generate.
When the video is on the page, click Video actions (⋮) in the top-right corner of the video and turn on Force Completion.
