Coursebox policies, terms and intellectual property

This article is a plain-English summary to help you find the right document quickly. The agreements themselves are the authoritative versions — where this summary and an agreement differ, the agreement applies.

Our policies and agreements

Who owns the courses and content you put into Coursebox?

You do. Under the User Agreement, account holders and users retain all intellectual property rights in their User Content — the documents, images, videos, text and courses you upload or build on the platform.

Some specifics worth knowing:

You keep your IP. Uploading content to Coursebox does not transfer ownership of it to us.
You grant us a licence to run the service. To actually operate the platform we need permission to store and display your content. You grant Coursebox a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, cache, index, transform (for example, creating embeddings or vectors so the AI Tutor can search your course) and display your content, for the purpose of operating, securing and improving the service.
AI outputs belong to you too. Content generated by Coursebox's AI features from your material — course pages, quizzes, summaries, voiceovers — is yours. Note that copyright law in some countries requires human authorship for a work to be protected, which can affect purely AI-generated material regardless of our terms.
We do not train our foundation models on your content without consent. Your content is only used to train base foundation models with the account holder's consent. Aggregated, de-identified telemetry is used to improve platform performance.
Coursebox owns the platform. The Coursebox software, branding and underlying technology remain ours. Using Coursebox does not give you any rights in our IP.
Your content must be yours to use. You are responsible for making sure the material you upload does not infringe anyone else's intellectual property — for example, third-party course material, images or video you do not have the rights to.

If you run a Private Portal

Organisations operating a branded portal have additional obligations under the Private Portal Agreement:

You receive a non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to run the portal — the platform itself may not be shared, copied or reverse-engineered.
You are responsible for moderating activity in your portal and for your users' compliance with the applicable terms and local laws.
You must publish Coursebox's Terms of Use and Privacy Policy to your own users. If you adapt or translate those terms, you take on the risk for their legal accuracy — the English versions remain authoritative.
You must keep your users' data confidential and handle it in line with the Privacy Policy and applicable privacy law.
You warrant that your content does not infringe third-party IP, and indemnify Coursebox against claims arising from it.

Signed agreements, MSAs, DPAs and security questionnaires

If your organisation needs a signed agreement, a Master Services Agreement, a Data Processing Agreement, an SLA, or a completed security questionnaire, these are handled as part of Coursebox Enterprise contracting rather than self-serve plans.
